Around 100 participants, including fisherfolk and community representatives from across the country, environmental and conservation groups, scientists, and other concerned citizens, will be gathering for a two-day summit with keynote speakers, panel discussions, and workshops at the Third People’s Summit Against Reclamation on June 3 – 4, 2023, at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center, 1175 United Nations Ave, Paco, Manila.
Topics that will be covered include: reclamation and its impacts on fisherfolk; the impacts of the San Miguel Corporation New Manila International Airport; alternatives to reclamation; reclamation and its environmental impacts; and narratives from across the country.
There will also be a Manila Bay Sunset Action on June 3 starting at 4:45 PM, where advocates will march along Roxas Blvd. (from Salas St.) to Rajah Sulayman Park to hold a program with speakers and performances. Advocates will be holding creative, marine life-themed placards alongside an actual bangka that will be brought to the park.
Advocates will also be holding a press conference on June 4, 10 AM at Pope Pius XII Catholic Center to report on the summit proceedings and announce upcoming activities of environmental and fisherfolk advocacy groups.
